Sega Mega Drive - Adobe Illustrator

This is one of my most impressive projects, while attempting to make my image appear 3D from a 2D platform of the Sega Mega Drive I also discovered different techniques to make a realistic image using Illustrator with shading.

I wanted to try a project that was mainly one colour, black was very difficult to work with because of the lack of depth and tones available to use but I did a lot of trial and error with different tones to achieve the end result until I was happy with the amount of depth I was able to create.
I started the project off using the pen tool to design sections instead of just doing a huge black image of the whole thing then working over the top of which is very daunting. I wanted to see it build up in sections.
As you can see here working with a dark colour is very difficult to highlight important areas of the console to give it depth in the correct areas.
I made sure to build the entire thing first before I started to put the text into the areas that I needed.
The control pad was the most difficult part of this project because of the array of colours involved for making it appear 3D and giving it the right shape with shading.
The final image is something I am very proud of, there is a consistency in the style of shading and depth.
